A structured approach to the receipt and initial threat assessment of problematic online and offline communication and contact.

The majority of inappropriate communications received by organisations, brands, and individuals are harmless. But some are not. How should a risk manager decide which require further action?

CTAP-25 is a reliable and defensible Baseline Security Standard for the receipt and management of communication from the general public, customers and employees.

The Role of CTAP-25

Designed for risk managers in the private and public sectors alike, CTAP-25 is effective at:

  • Identifying communication and contact most frequently linked to unwanted safety, welfare and reputational outcomes.
  • Focusing resources and attention on the highest priority communication and contact, and reducing the likelihood that anxiety, time and resources are expended on low priority cases.
  • Embedding a structured approach to the receipt of concerning communication from the general public, customers, service-users, ex/employees, suppliers and fans.

The strengths and principles of CTAP-25

  • It is a general risk instrument, helping identify not just the potential for violence risk, but persistence, disruption, escalation and reputational risk.
  • CTAP-25 can be applied by risk managers, rather  than just psychologists.  It includes clinical parameters but excludes clinical jargon.
  • Useful where only one communication is available and is applicable to cases where the identity of the correspondent is unknown.
  • Is designed to survive turn-over of employees in receipt channels and adopts a standard process for both recipient and assessor.
  • Evolved in public and private sector operational settings, so is user friendly and requires a minimal amount of training.
  • Based on the communication itself, with access to a minimum amount of information through open source.
  • As applicable to online media as to written, spoken, published or broadcast communication.
  • The CTAP-25 is evidence-based and so is a defensible means of initial threat assessment.
